UPDATE: The dogs have left Australia on flight home to the United States! They are no longer in danger!
Johnny Deep and his wife, actress and model Amber Head returned to Australia for the filming of the latest sequel of the Pirates of the Caribbean. The couple decided to bring their pet dogs with them, but now, Australian authorities have seized the two adorable pets. They are facing either deportation or euthanasia because their owners did not follow the strict requirements of the Australian state.
The US Embassy has warned citizens that Australian authorities have strict rules regarding biosecurity. It seems that Depp failed to declare the pets to customs upon his arrival.
A spokesman with the Department of Agriculture stated that ‘any animal which is imported without meeting Australia’s import conditions will be quarantined and will be either exported or euthanized’. Pets such as cats and dogs are imported under strict rules in Australia due to biosecurity concerns, as pet owners need to obtain several import permits and conduct endless vet checks before having their voiceless pets allowed on Australian territory.
Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce did not seem to be impressed by Johnny Depp’s credentials and claimed that the rules apply for everyone.
We, the undersigned, consider that euthanizing Depp’s dogs would be extreme and unnecessary. Those dogs are not at fault, simply because Depp did not follow the guidelines. If anyone should be punished it is Depp, not the pet dogs!
Sign the petition and tell the authorities to let Depp’s cute puppies live! Act now to save them!
